summer stripes + nautical + rent the runway unlimited + summer style + OOTD

Red, White and Stripes

July 6, 2017

When I think coastal weekend getaway I always think stripes - and my go to is usually blue & white for a nautical feel. However, this summer I've been trying to play around with colors I don't usually go for, like red.

I know I've said it for years, but I just can't get on board with the color red and really commit to it. I wear it once and love it and then the next day hate it and likely never wear it again. Which is one of the many reasons I love Rent the Runway Unlimited so much. It allows me to try out pieces in styles and colors that I would likely not buy but would love to try out for a trial run. If I fall in love I can buy it, and if I don't I can send it back and try something else. It truy is a brilliant concept and would have saved me from wasting thousands of dollars over the years on items I loved in the store but seldom or never wore and then ended up donating anyway.

Take this little striped number for example - definitely not something I would buy, and honestly probably not something I would even try on because I know I wouldn't buy it...but wear it for an evening? Absolutely!

I personally didn't love this piece, it was just missing something for me at the waistline, but it fit like a glove, had a nice high waist and a great hi-lo hem. It's hard to see here but it also had a good amount of structure in the skirt as well as some handy pockets (which you all know I can't live without).

Plus it ended up being perfect for a cocktail party aboard The Spirit of Massachusetts in Kennebunkport, ME.
