When we bought our home we decided that just a little bit out of the city was our best bet - it got us closer to the beach, more space and something that was turn key so for us 100% worth it. What we gave up though was the amount of restaurants, shops & bars that we could walk to with ease. Here in South Portland we do have options, just not as many as I would like...so when we get new additions to our hood I get very excited.
Case in point...the newest member to our downtown area - Foulmouthed Brewing. Such a breath of fresh air this place is!
We came in on opening night and the place was packed but through some stroke of luck we snagged a table by the window - and thank goodness because moments after we sat down there was a line out the door.
With an open floorplan and walls of windows the space feels much larger than it actually is, this I loved, because so many places in the Old Port are so tight and run on the dark side. I also loved their minimalistic approach with concrete floors, industrial style fixtures and clean white subway tiles. The warm tones from the wood finish off the space nicely, especially the bar area which is nearly the length of the entire space with plenty of seating.
Menu wise they have a broad selection for drinks with their own tasty brews (obviously) on tap and some of the best craft cocktails I have had in some time. Not on the menu, but I would highly suggest a French75...because they made my to perfection. As for food, it's on the lighter side but definitely a great spot for appetizers or a light meal. The flavors were fresh, creative and beautifully displayed (pulled pork nachos are life changing) and I did see that they might start serving brunch in the near future as well (please, please do so!!).
This is absolutely on our list of favorites and such a welcomed addition to South Portland.
Happy Friday kids - make it a great weekend!
