One thing I love about summers here in Maine is that there are a lot of days where it's the absolute perfect weather to throw on shorts and a cozy knit or sweatshirt. It's honestly my late summer go to and I will wear this combo into the fall as long as I can.
In fact, as I am thinking about it, this was pretty much my uniform as a kid as well.
Summers were filled with beach days and summer camp and the mornings were often chilly, so I'd always be in shorts and a hoodie. Back then I wasn't quite as stylish, definitely was more of a tomboy (shocker I know), but I at least knew what felt good.
And feeling good is such a big part of what I wear. If it's not comfortable I am not going to wear it - because I have learned that I will fidget with it and complain about it the entire time I am wearing it. Plus, at this point in my life I am way too busy with other things to worry about being uncomfortable. So I avoid it, in all things really. Relationships, work, projects & collaborations, fitness...the minute I am uncomfortable I am out. Which is good and bad because it can sometimes prevent me from experiencing something awesome. But if there is anything I have learned over the years it is that I am much happier overall when I stick with what I know I like and what I know works for me - those surprise "OMG I love this and I never thought I would" moments are few and far between.
So rule of the day...stick to what you know and love people. You'll be more fulfilled in the long run. Those summer flings are rarely last.
Sorry...got a little heavy on a Wednesday.
Back to light & fun - like this sweater from Motifs which I am planning on living in all fall.
It's the perfect combination of the two seasons and is so "Maine" I can barely contain myself.
Plus it's lightweight so you can easily tuck it into shorts, tie it or wear it long over skinny jeans or leggings. Versatile and cute? I call that a win.
Here's to enjoying these last few weeks of summer - and planning for the fall and FALL FASHION. Ugh...I can't wait.
And we have got a darn busy fall to enjoy it in, that's for sure. Looking at our calendar this morning the months of September and October are literally booked solid and I am already starting to work on November and December. It's slightly insane. Where does the time go?!
Cheers to humpday kids - just 2 more days until that holiday weekend!

Dear Summer in Maine,
You are a tricky gal - I simply can't seem to figure you out. At first I thought we were friends, and then you got super heated (June & upper 90's??) with me quite unexpectedly and then you were super emotional (most rain in July ever), then you disappeared (like, as in last week with fall feels) and now you are back (with 90 and humid). These are mixed messages and are making our friendship very difficult.
A little bit of consistency (as in 80 & sunny during the day and 68 at night) would be appreciated.
In all seriousness though, the weather this summer has been so weird. I am not complaining perse - just making an observation and stating the fact that I like a bit more consistency. I mean, a girl likes to plan ahead you know?!
Even with travel this summer the weather has been wonky - like when we were down in Charleston they were having some of the most hot & humid weather with crazy crazy rains...way more than normal.
I suppose we are bringing the nutty weather with us as we go?
What I will consistenly take though are summer evenings on a patio with a glass of champagne in hand, preferably at the Zero George where the cheese plates are plentiful and the patio breeze is like heaven.
If this could be our porch at home, I honestly might not ever leave. Espeically if refills were delivered like they are here.
Happy Tuesday...one step closer to that holiday weekend kids.

There is something about a simple silky slip dress that I have been forever in love with - in fact my first formal dance as a teenager my mom custom made me an off white floor length slip dress...that I probably should have saved given that now it would be completely back in style. That damn hindsight.
Anyway...the dress. I have struggled to find one that fits and is of the right material. Either it's too clingy, too sheer (or both), the wrong length or the wrong color. I honestly gave up looking years ago, and like always, as soon as I stop looking I find things. So when I saw this dress I knew I must give it a try, and let me tell you. It fit like a glove.
The outer shell was fairly sheer but the dress had a thin lining which provided the perfect amount of coverage while giving the piece just enough structure to not cling to every curve. The side slits allowed for it to be a little flowy and made for walking in heels and squeezing into our tiny 2 top table for dinner a breeze.
I also liked the midi length - which is honestly growing on me lately - and with these rose colored suede block heels I was definitely loving the entire ensemble.
In fact, these shoes are my new obsession - AND - I almost didn't get them. Shocking...I know. But I wasn't shopping for them, didn't need them and they weren't on super sale (usually my must haves for shoes). However, breaking the rules for these bad boys was totally worth it and I can easily see them transitioning into the fall season.
Another snazzy detail? The back cut out. I die for a good low back or cut out...
Overall this ended up being an easy to throw together dinner look for our stay in Boston last week and paired with a denim jacket was just right for the fall weather that has seemed to be rolling in.
Even though it's Thursday I am pretending like today is Friday...who else is with me?!
